Greetings from Hong
Kong! Everyone (and their luggage) has
safely arrived. We got the day off to a
good start by everyone checking in at the Sioux Falls Airport by 7:45 am, and
then got a real surprise in the waiting area as Senator John Thune came over, wished
us well, and then visited with some of the students. Not much time in the Denver and San Francisco
airports, and then the 11 hr flight to Hong Kong, where people were able to get
varying amounts of sleep. We arrived
about 45 minutes early, got through Customs fairly quickly, and then loaded the
bus for the 45 minutes ride to our hotel.
While waiting outside for our bus, sweatshirts and jackets came flying
off as we stood in the 80F and 80% humidity weather, and it felt GREAT! We checked into the hotel, and then had an
authentic Hong Kong meal, where everyone did fairly well with chopsticks. One of the highlights was the whole chicken,
where our more adventuresome students tried the head. We’re all back in the hotel and winding down
before a big day tomorrow touring Hong Kong, and then into China tomorrow
night. Thank you all for your support of
our young people as we begin this trip.
This will truly be a life-changing experience for them.
